Incomplete applications will be returned to the agency, and may cause a delay in enrolling students in the training programs.

A COMPLETE application package MUST have been received by and reviewed by the Basic Training Bureau by 8:00 a.m. on the day before the mandatory assessment. Applicants WILL NOT be allowed to assess if a application has not been received by Bureau staff, reviewed and determined to be COMPLETE by the deadline. Applicants with incomplete application packages will be scheduled for the next available Basic Police Officer Training (BPOT) Academy class.

* Schedules were current at the starting date of each BPOT class, however adjustments are made on an ongoing basis. Once a BPOT class graduates a final schedule is published reflecting all interim changes.

**BPOT Academy applicants not meeting the 40th percentile fitness entry standard two weeks prior to attending will not be allowed to attend that BPOT Academy and will be moved to the application process for the next BPOT class. Please refer to the BPOT Entrance Fitness Requirements for 40th percentile entry standards.

NOTICE OF CHANGES!
PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING FOR THE Basic Police Officer Training Academy

Starting with the April 2010 BPOT Class #179, the pre-Academy Report Writing requirement takes effect.  All applicants must complete the Central NM Community College (CNM)report writing class prior to entry into the Academy or, be currently enrolled in the on-line class.  Successful completion of the course fulfills the Block 13 Report Writing requirement of the basic curriculum and is required for graduation and certification.  See the CNM Report Writing Notification Letter.

There have been changes in the required equipment list. Please download the current list - BPOT Equipment List (revised 06-04-08).   Gym attire is now black, not gray and 2” white lettering (LAST NAME) is required on gym T-shirts and sweatshirts.

There has been a change in BPOT Academy Application Requirements.  All applicants must now complete 4 hours of training in first aid and 9 hours in CPR within one year prior to the start date of the NMLEA BPOT Academy class being applied for. The agency head or designee must complete a TRAINING CERTIFICATE FOR FIRST AID & CPR (LEA-15) for each applicant and submit it with the application packet. Download the latest revision of the certification form LEA-15 .

Remedial Training Schedule

The Basic Academy Training Bureau schedules remedial training on an as-needed basis. The student in need of remedial training will be scheduled and notified of said training with the cost of the training being billed to the student's agency. Occasionally, remedial training is scheduled during the student's scheduled academy training if staff, facilities, and time are available. If this approach is used, it could result in student and staff overtime.
